The Banff World Television Festival Awards is one of the world’s most prestigious international television program competitions. The 2008 competition attracted more than 1000 entries from 44 countries, representing a 15% increase in entries from 2007.
Last year two new categories were introduced; the BEST ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAM award and the BEST SOCIAL & HUMANITARIAN Program award. These new categories quickly became two of our most popular with the later award receiving the highest number of entries.
NEW AWARDS
This year, we are pleased to add a new award to recognize excellence in sports programming. The BEST SPORTS PROGRAM award will be given out at the 30th installment of the Banff World Television Awards Show, presented in partnership with E! Everything Entertainment, at the Fairmont Banff Springs, in Banff, Alberta, Canada, on Monday, June 8, 2009.
In addition to this new award, we have updated our categories to reflect changes in international television programming as part of our commitment to keep our awards competition among the most prestigious in the world.
Our Special Jury Awards this year will be comprised of two awards; BEST NON-FICTION and BEST FICTION awards. Our International Special Jury will also select the Grand Prize and name this year’s ‘Best in Show’.
