What to Expect

Whether you’re a BANFF regular or are attending this world-class event for the first time, check out what’s on as we celebrate 30 years at the 2009 BANFF World Television Festival:

Sessions

Face to Face with an Agent
Adding to our popular series, 2009 will see the launch of speed-dating with agents. Book your 10min slot for a chance to get Canadian and international representation.

The Craft
The Craft series is a workshop-style, hour long session that brings writers, directors and producers together in workshops that break down the creative process of making great television. This is a new strand of programming this year, inspired by our delegates who wanted a more interactive learning experience with the top-level creators we bring out to the festival.

 The Biz
These sessions are geared towards producers and will examine various legal and business affairs issues relating to the production of television and new and emerging media projects. We’ll go in-depth to help you learn the tools of the trade and discover how to protect yourself and your project from our expert panelists.

Keynote Speakers
Where else can you find one of the biggest players in broadcast, mobile and publishing content development, an innovative social theorist who also happens to be a best-selling author, and a president of a successful Hollywood studio? At BANFF, of course!

Master Classes
The most creative and successful minds in television reveal their unique creative processes, and the trade secrets of what it takes to make a hit show.

In Conversation
In Conversation... provides a format for high profile and visionary television executives to be interviewed by equally engaging media personalities. Discover the type of intimate, behind-the-scenes info you want to know.

Decision Maker Breakfast/Lunch/Cocktails/Bowling
An intimate, no-pressure opportunity for independent producers to meet with key Commissioning Editors – broadcast industry leaders, influential power-brokers who are looking to discover the freshest, hottest new ideas in television. Delegates can register for two Decision Maker sessions.

Face-to-Face
Experience the chance of a lifetime to sit down face-to-face with an international Commissioning Editor. You have ten minutes to make an impression. Take a deep breath, pitch your project, load on the "WOW"...and leave with a deal.

C21 Broadcaster Briefings
Get inside information on what broadcasters from around the world want. In these open, informal sessions, international Commissioning Editors will provide insight into their schedules, outline production priorities and biases, discuss potential partnership deals, and answer your questions.

 nextMEDIA Digital Media Stream
This year BANFF will be continuing a series of digital media panels and workshops that highlight some of the key areas of growth affecting the television industry. These panels will take some of the main ideas that came out BANFF’s sister conference nextMEDIA - The Future of Digital Content and tailor them for the television community.
